The intriguing gameplay trailer shown at the recent Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase for Plot Twist’s upcoming The Last Case of Benedict Fox, a noir fiction voyage through hostile realms, decaying memories, and cosmic horror, was, for me, one of the standout games revealed. Sure, there’re plenty of side-scrolling action platformers within the indie scene, each with their own brand of unique atmosphere, combat, and hand-drawn art style.
However, with its vibrant Tim Burton-esque presentation imbued with sombre turquoise and purple, its cosmic horror ala H.P. Lovecraft, contrasting with a rather sprightly jazz soundtrack, Benedict Fox’s decent into mystical underworlds easily stands out. But, beyond appearances, what makes The Last Case of Benedict Fox one of the most exciting games slated for release next year?
