The largest naval amphibious operation that almost happened, takes place after these nukes weren’t enough, so the US assaults the Japanese home islands. This is the ultimate cinematics, with breathtaking scenes, including nearly everything – battleships, air superiority, tanks, sniper, kamikaze planes, and boats, epic “Omaha Beach” like landing, woods, airfield, beautiful Japanese landscape with hills and ricefields featuring village.
This is the first phase, Operation Olympic, where the largest Allied naval armada lands on the southernmost island Kyushu to establish airbases for an even bigger upcoming Operation Coronet with the aim to take Tokyo.
We’re talking about the biggest of the biggest regarding Downfall. Japanese had millions of soldiers and volunteers ready to defend with some bearly even having any ammunition but their plan was clear – to make their Americans pay the extreme price for this.
D-Day would’ve been a small brother compared to the scale of this therefore we went all-in with this immersive story-driven film, dreaming big, accomplishing big. Seems our good’ old Berlin last stand just got a rival.
